So.  What’s this blog all about?

Good question.

Short Answer: A husband and wife team showing off some of the crafty stuff we make and do. Sharing thoughts about events we attend, games we play and adventures we, uh, advent!

To be honest, it’s still very new to us and we’re not sure exactly what directions we will take it – we just plan to enjoy ourselves getting there!

The vague, fluffy thought of a family blog, chronicling our travels, has been kicked around for some time now. The real catalyst goes back a couple of months. For the first half of the year, the Shelmertime team invested a lot of time and energy into a joint project which didn’t ultimately get off the ground.  In hindsight, this was probably for the best. In any case, once the dust had settled we realised something. Working together on a project provided a measure of discipline which carried over into our more artistic pursuits. Now we’re still buzzing with creative energy, but need a fun new means of venting it.  Hmm, if only we had a way of sharing our efforts…

But who exactly are Team Shelmertime?

Well. These guys:

Anna J.

Anna was born in the small town of Żory, southern Poland, and currently lives on the opposite side of the world in Brisbane, Australia, with her husband Ryan [see below].

Anna holds a degree in Library Information Sciences from the University of Wroclaw and is currently working with Griffith University, having served in the Libraries of both the Queensland Conservatorium and the Queensland College of Arts.  In her spare time, she also enjoys performing various voluntary roles for the State Library of Queensland.

Once you get her away from the library scene, it’s Anna’s creative side and sense of fun that show through*. She has an active interest in Printmaking techniques, such as Screen printing and Gum bichromate; Jewellery making; Embroidery and a host of other crafty pursuits.  We look forward to sharing them with you via the blog.

*[Not that libraries aren't fun too, of course!]

Ryan

Although Ryan was born in Sydney, his family’s involvement with the Royal Australian Navy resulted in his younger self moving around a fair bit. For anyone interested: Darwin is hot, Melbourne is cold, and Cairns – though lovely – is hot with regular bouts of cyclonic.  He has since lived in Poland (explored Europe and met his lovely wife) and London, UK.  He is now happily living in Brisbane, with Anna (see above).

Ryan has undertaken studies in a variety of fields, such as Computer Programming, Game Design, Massage Therapy, and Education**.  His employment history is equally diverse, covering ground from Tech Support to Teacher.  In recent years this has shifted towards involvement in retail positions, including a couple of years with the former Borders (UK) bookstores.  In the couple of years since returning to Australia, he has worked with a Brisbane-based game and puzzle store.  At the time of writing this, Ryan is currently unemployed, but welcomes any interesting opportunities.

Somewhat of a tinkerer when it comes to creative projects, it’s hard to say what will make it to the blog. We’ll just have to see what shiny doodads worthy endeavours catch his eye.
