Christmas Markets in Brisbane

Christmas is coming!

Have you done your Christmas Shopping? This is the question you will be asked more and more frequently as time progresses towards the end of December. Some people won’t be talking about anything else over the coming weeks, while others just loathe the question (they think “It’s November, who cares about Christmas now!?”).

No matter what your attitude is though, you will probably spend some time shopping for gifts sooner or later. Why not then, head over to one of Brisbane’s many markets for some inspiration and a wonderful selection of handmade gifts.

Here is a nice selection of places where the Shelmertime team will be shopping for gifts.

Global Market Day is a fair trade event so if you love places like Oxfam and the Trading Circle this is the market for you. Here you will find handmade products from places like Thailand, Bangladesh, Peru, India, Kenya and many many more. More than 30 stallholders will be selling jewellery, clothing, food products, crafts and homewares and you can be sure that the money from sales will go to help out less advantaged communities. There will even be a Bollywood disco and live music. Not to be missed!

Global Market Day

If you can’t make it to Global Market Day (or if you simply haven’t had enough yet) there is another fair trade market in Brisbane. It’s the Fair Trade Christmas Market, organised by Queensland Fair Trade Collective. Again, there will be food and live music and lots of stallholders with wonderful items.

When: 3rd & 4th December starting at 9.30am and finishing at 3.30pm

Where: St Aidan’s Anglican Girls’ School, 11 Ruthven Street, Corinda (enter via Harrowby St).

To support local crafters, artists and emerging designers head on over to The Christmas BrisStyle Indie Designers Market. BrisStyle is an association of over 150 etsy sellers that formed in 2008. Everything they sell is of course handmade and beautiful!

When: 10th December (Saturday) from 9am – 4pm

If you are one of those busy people you might find yourself without gifts right up until the last moment. But there is still a chance for you to get a splash of some handmade goodness. BrisStyle is organising the Indie Twilight Market.  An after work event at the King George Square. There will be over 60 stalls and a jazz band too.

When:  16th December (Friday) from 5pm till 9pm

Where: King George Square, Brisbane
